In Times of COVID-19

Much gratitude is extended to our many supporters! In March 2020, as the Country began to shut down and many important resources were forced to close temporarily, Focus on the Children was able to remain open and accessible to families in need.  2020 was a year of fits and starts for everyone as we were glued to the TV to learn the latest news of the virus and how it was affecting our local communities. Neighbor helping neighbor was the call of the day. Our little agency continued to serve families with needs such as beds, cribs, school supplies, clothing, and other emergent needs.

Come November, FOTC decided to host our Annual Christmas Program in a virtual way. Come hell or high water, we would get gifts and household items out to families and throw in some gift cards to help with food needs. This endeavor was costly, giving us an incredible perspective on just how important our Christmas sponsors are! It was easy to see, all those gifts we collected at Christmas were worth close to $50,000. With the help of our regular sponsors, we were holding our own, but it became apparent, without our "wish trees" out in churches and neighborhoods, were were going to take a loss this year - until..... One evening we received that call. You know, the call you dream of, but think it will never happen to "you?" Picking up the phone, we heard, "I want to give you $25,000." The Christmas Program was saved, at no cost to our regular operations! "Thank you" will never be enough, Joe Moran. The donation was sent to us with a challenge attached - asking for matching funds from other long-time supporters. We were able to pull it off and meet our budget!

2021 is now up and going and we are already into February. Focus on the Children is seeing an uptick in requests. We are once again concerned about meeting our budget and the Leadership of FOTC is putting their thinking caps on. It is time to get creative about fund raising so we an continue to meet the needs of kids right here in our home towns. More to come on these innovative ideas.... Stay tuned...
